This South Africa Travel Package was planned for an older couple from Atlanta who wanted to learn about the rich history and culture of South Africa. This Africa vacation package took them to Cape Town, Johannesburg, and historic battlefields for an immersive cultural experience.

They began their South Africa Travel Package with 5 nights in Cape Town. They stayed at Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel, a beautifully maintained 19th century building. In Cape Town, they took a tour of the colorful neighborhood of Bo-Kapp; the politically significant District 6, once a thriving neighborhood before its residents were forcibly removed during Apartheid; and Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.

The next day for their Africa vacation, they continued exploring Cape Town on a tour of the city’s iconic sights. Then, they visited the township of Langa to learn about the community efforts that are improving the area. They also took a traditional cooking class in Langa and learned to make delicious South African food.

Next on their South Africa Travel Package, they picked up their rental car and drove to the Dolphin Coast and their luxury accommodations at The Oyster Box. Here, they toured the local townships and historic sites. The next day, they toured the Battlefields region to learn about the historic battles that shaped South Africa. They continued their South Africa Travel Package with a stop at Thanda Tented Camp and Makakatana Bay Lodge, where they were able to experience the wildlife of South Africa.

Finally, they spent 3 nights in Johannesburg at The Peech, a serene and luxurious hotel near the shopping and entertainment districts. The next day, they visited the Apartheid Museum, followed by a bicycle tour of the Soweto township to learn about the history and present-day culture. Then, they took a day tour of the ancient Sterkfontein Caves.

After this fabulous cultural adventure, their South Africa Travel Package came to an end. They dropped off their car at the airport and caught their flight home with fond memories of their once-in-a-lifetime Africa vacation.

Day 2
Delve deep into South Africa’s political past. Start off at Bo-Kaap, home to the Malay community and one of the oldest residential areas in the city. Then, cross over to District Six. This was once a vibrant neighborhood before forced removals under Apartheid turned it into a desolate wasteland. Take a walk through the township to see the changes New South Africa is bringing to the area. Next, you’ll board a ferry to Robben Island. At various times, this island was a prison, leper colony, mental institution, and military base. Hear fascinating stories from a local guide, who will share his experiences from time spent on the island during Apartheid.
