Plan Your Trip: Gorilla Trekking Tours, Trip Packages, and Travel Information
Gorilla trekking through the mountain forests on the slopes of the Virungas is a magical experience. Bordering Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Virungas are home to more than half of the world’s entire population of mountain gorillas. If you’re lucky, trekking is easy and you’ll find gorillas in no time, however, some of them can be quite elusive, especially during wet weather. So keep an eye out!
Our African safari experts have been gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda and can provide insider tips for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. See some of our gorilla trekking experiences in the video below, and contact us to learn more!
Best Time for Gorilla Trekking
Gorilla trekking can be enjoyed year-round! The seasons don’t change much in the gorilla trekking jungles of Rwanda and Uganda. However, the rainy season does see slightly more rain and muddy trails, which can make the trek more challenging.
Rainy Season: April to May and September November
Dry Season: December to February and June to August
Rwanda or Uganda?
The gorilla trekking experience in both countries is quite similar. Rwanda is a small country, offering an “in-and-out” gorilla trekking safari that’s perfect for those on a time crunch. Uganda has more to explore, with a full range of safari activities, chimpanzee trekking, boat cruises, white water rafting, and more.
