South Africa Kruger Safari: Sabi Sands Getaway

Enjoy the best wildlife viewing in South Africa on this Kruger safari. Stay at 2 ultra-luxury lodges in the exclusive Sabi Sands region of Kruger. One embodies traditional, old-world charm while the other offers understated, calming luxury. Both will cater to your every whim!

We crafted this South Africa Kruger Safari: Sabi Sands Getaway for a high-end couple from New York who were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. They wanted a true luxury safari experience where every whim was catered to—a romantic getaway that would delight and surprise them. We sent them to 2 incredible luxury lodges in the Sabi Sand Private Reserve, a part of the Kruger National Park ecosystem that offers some of South Africa’s most abundant and exclusive wildlife sightings.

They began their South Africa Kruger Safari: Sabi Sands Getaway at Sabi Sabi Selati Camp. Indulgent and romantic, the historically themed Selati Camp embodies the safari of yesterday, conjuring up memories of when time drifted slowly and luxury embraced you in an effortless whisper. They spent 3 nights at Selati before moving on to Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge, a luxurious sanctuary that represents the safari of tomorrow. They loved the contrast between Selati’s colonial elegance and the understated, calming luxury of Earth Lodge.

Both camps are located in the Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve in the southwest corner of the Sabi Sands. The location gave them access to the abundant wildlife sightings for which Kruger has become world-famous, while offering a more exclusive experience with only a few vehicles at each sighting. They ticked off all of the Big 5 in their first 2 days, and had plenty of time to discover the smaller, less famous creatures that make up this fascinating ecosystem.

In between safari activities, they enjoyed the utmost luxury back at camp. No matter the camp, Sabi Sabi offers absolutely impeccable service, luxurious amenities, unforgettable dining experiences, a wide selection of beverages included in the cost, and a feeling of being immersed in nature while indulging in all your favorite creature comforts.

At last, their magical South Africa Kruger Safari: Sabi Sands Getaway came to an end. They were transferred to the airstrip, where they caught their flight to Johannesburg and onward back home.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1
Welcome to South Africa! Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met at the door of your aircraft with your name on a paging board and assisted through immigration, baggage collection, and customs. You will then be shown to your onward flight to the Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve.

Step back in time at the Sabi Sabi Selati Camp in the south-western corner of the Sabi Sand Private Reserve—an exclusive game reserve sharing an unfenced border with Kruger National Park. Here, you’ll find endless romance and old-world colonial charm. Rooms are elegantly decorated in a traditional safari style, using the warm textures and colors of a bygone era. Enjoy gourmet meals at the scenic riverside dining deck or out in the boma, where the sounds of the wild mingle with the firelight and the aromas of the meal.

Day 2 – 3
Spend the next 2 days on safari in the Sabi Sands, a region famous for its abundant wildlife, especially leopard. Being in a private reserve allows more freedom on your safari: You can enjoy night game drives, walking safaris, and fewer vehicles at each sighting. With the help of expert safari guides, you’ll be able to see the Big 5 of Africa up close, along with other fascinating wildlife including cheetahs, wild dogs, giraffes, and countless species of unique birds. Game drives depart in the mornings and evenings, when the wildlife is most active. In between safari activities, unwind at the lodge, enjoy fabulous gourmet meals and included beverages, and bask in your luxurious surroundings.

Day 4
Today, enjoy a short transfer to Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge. Earth Lodge represents the future of safari, in beautiful contrast to Selati Camp’s traditional style. Almost invisible in the landscape, Earth Lodge is a luxurious sanctuary sculpted into a slope of earth that opens to a panorama of uninterrupted bushveld. Central areas, including a wine cellar, spa, gym, gallery, and meditation garden, overlook an active waterhole, so you don’t even have to leave the lodge to see Kruger’s incredible wildlife! Take the afternoon to settle into your suite and perhaps indulge in a relaxing massage.

Day 5 – 7
Enjoy your next 3 days of safari adventure! Spot the Big 5 on morning and evening game drives, and spend the afternoons relaxing back at the lodge. The unique, luxurious designs built from natural materials will make you feel in harmony with your beautiful bush surroundings. Each of the suites features individually designed furniture, private plunge pool, en-suite glass fronted bathroom, and indoor and outdoor shower.

For a change of pace, enjoy a walking safari with an expert naturalist guide who will share their knowledge of the land and help you appreciate the majesty of this pristine wilderness. In the evenings, enjoy sundowner cocktails and eat delicious meals in the outdoor boma, basking in the light of the campfire. During your stay, you will feel at one with nature, all while enjoying the utmost luxury.
