We designed this Classic Kenya Luxury Safari Package for a lovely couple from Houston. They had already visited South Africa and Botswana and were looking for a different safari experience in Kenya. We sent them to some of our favorite luxury safari lodges to see the Great Migration and the unique landscapes of remote Kenya.

They started their Classic Kenya Luxury Safari Package at ol Donyo Lodge, where they were able to soak up views of the plains leading up to Mt Kilimanjaro in the distance. During their stay, they went on game drives in the park, did some horseback riding through the arid landscape, and learned about the local culture from their Maasai guides. Next they traveled to Segera Retreat, a luxurious safari lodge located in a private game reserve. In addition to game drives, they did a safari by air, viewing the wildlife-dotted plains from above in a fixed-wing plane.

Mara Plains camp was the next stop on their Classic Kenya Luxury Safari Package. They loved the tented camp experience; they felt like 1920s adventurers in their large, opulent tented rooms! Here, they had exceptional access to the most magnificent wildlife spectacle on earth: the Great Migration, where an estimated 2 million wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes thunder across the plains following the seasonal rains.

After getting their fill of safari—in vehicles, on horseback, and on a plane—their last stop offered a completely different wildlife experience. They finished their Classic Kenya Luxury Safari Package at Giraffe Manor just outside of Nairobi. The manor is a classic and elegant building, but the big draw are the giraffes who wander the grounds and even stick their long necks through the dining room windows looking for a treat! Staying at Giraffe Manor and being able to pet, feed, and kiss these amazing creatures was a highlight of their trip.

Their Classic Kenya Luxury Safari Package was a whirlwind adventure that went far beyond their expectations. They fell in love with Kenya and decided they had to visit again a few years down the road!

Day 1
Welcome to Kenya! Fly into Nairobi, where our representative will meet you at the gate and escort you to your onward flight to the Amboseli region of southeastern Kenya. You’ll have your first opportunity to see the Big 5 in the wild on a short game drive to ol Donyo Lodge.

This luxurious lodge sits in thick woodland on a gently sloping hillside with views out over the plains to a distant Mt Kilimanjaro. Designed to merge your outdoor and indoor living, a series of unique suites and villas (no two are the same) appears to emerge from the arid landscape on either side of a palatial lounge and dining area. Arrive in time for a scrumptious lunch followed by an evening game drive, horseback ride, or mountain biking.

Day 2
Rise early this morning to see wildlife like lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, and much more on a morning game drive. As the animals retreat in the heat of the afternoon, return to the lodge and enjoy some free time to relax and perhaps cool off with a dip in your private plunge pool. Indulge in a spa treatment or learn about Maasai culture from one of your local guides. Enjoy delicious gourmet meals and premium drinks at the lodge, all included in your room rate. For a special experience this evening, you can choose to sleep on your roof terrace under a brilliant canopy of stars.

Day 3
It’s an early start today as you enjoy a last breakfast before being transferred to the airstrip in time for your flight north to the Laikipa region of Kenya. On arrival at the Nanyuki airstrip, enjoy a road transfer to Segera Retreat, located on a private wildlife sanctuary. After lunch, you can enjoy activities at the lodge, including Big 5 game drives, camel-back safaris, and more.

Uniquely, Segera Retreat is a satellite of Cape Town’s Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. You can take a guided walk through the sculpture garden to gain insight into the evocative contemporary art being produced throughout Africa.

Day 4 – 5
Enjoy 2 days on safari at the exquisite Segera Retreat. In the mornings you’ll be woken up with a light breakfast spread, complete with tea or coffee, before embarking on early morning game drives.

Segera is centrally positioned in the heart of Laikipia, one of the world’s most exciting safari destinations. During your African wildlife safari, you can expect to see herds of elephant and buffalo; predators such as lion, leopard, or cheetah; plains game, including multiple species of antelope and zebra; important populations of reticulated giraffe; and much more.

For a special treat, you can opt for a thrilling excursion in a fixed-wing plane, viewing the vast plains of Tanzania from above. In the evenings, enjoy drinks in the company of your friends or just relax in your room.

Day 6
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to your flight to Mara Plains, a luxurious safari camp in the famous Maasai Mara. The position of your tent provides you with the most incredible vista available in the Mara. This combined with the luxurious interiors, high-end attention to detail, and access to incredible facilities, makes this a must-stay property. After lunch, there will be time for an afternoon siesta and an evening game drive, followed by a drink as you watch the Mara’s spectacular sunset, rounding off another fabulous day on safari.
Mara Plains

Day 7 – 8
Spend 2 days exploring this majestic park with its large diversity of beautiful scenery, including meandering rivers, towering escarpments, and rolling grasslands that provide the perfect habitat for an abundance of game. The Big 5 of Africa call this park home, including rare white and black rhinos. Game viewing is spectacular year-round; you may see a pride of lions stalking their prey, observe a herd of elephant and their fascinating social structure, or see pods of hippo wallowing in the rivers.

The great wildebeest migration is one of nature’s wonders; an estimated 2 million animals migrate in a year-round pattern through Tanzania and Kenya, following the rain. Around July each year, the huge herds begin dramatic river crossings and the grasslands of the Mara are covered by a mass of moving wildebeest, offering easy opportunity for crocodile and predators that are never far away. While in the Mara, visit a traditional Maasai village or take a balloon safari at an extra cost.

Day 9 – 10
Enjoy one last game drive before a flight and road transfer bring you to the magical Giraffe Manor. This gorgeous manor boasts classic European elegance, with ivy-covered walls, verdant gardens, and sun-drenched terraces. However, the most fascinating thing about Giraffe Manor is its herd of resident Rothschild giraffe who may visit in the morning and evening, sometimes poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary. Spend 2 days at this wonderfully unique hotel, where you’ll have an opportunity to feed and kiss the friendly giraffes!
