Ultimate East Africa Safari: Kenya, Tanzania, and Gorillas

Discover some of Africa’s most famous, sought-after wildlife experiences on this bucket list East Africa safari. See rare rhinos and the Big 5 in Kenya, witness the Great Migration of wildebeest, track endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, and much more. This is a trip you’ll remember for life!

We designed this Ultimate East Africa Safari: Kenya, Tanzania, and Gorillas vacation for a couple from San Francisco who wanted the adventure of a lifetime. This bucket list trip took them to Kenya and Tanzania to see the Great Migration, as well as Rwanda to track wild mountain gorillas in the forest!

They started their adventure in Kenya, exploring some of the northern safari parks: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to some of the last northern white rhinos in the world; and Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy, run by the Samburu community, said to be one of the lost tribes of Israel who celebrate Judaic culture and live in close harmony with the land, plants, and animals.

Continuing their Ultimate East Africa Safari: Kenya, Tanzania, and Gorillas vacation, they visited the world-famous Maasai Mara region of Kenya and the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to witness the Great Migration! They even saw a wildebeest river crossing, one of the most iconic wildlife spectacles in Africa.

Then it was time for gorilla trekking in Rwanda—a true bucket list item! They stayed at a fabulous lodge just 10 minutes from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park, enjoying beautiful views of the misty mountains. They spent a day tracking a family of incredibly rare, wild mountain gorillas and observing them in their natural habitat. They also tracked golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park, an experience which is often overshadowed by gorillas but just as rewarding! They loved seeing the adorable golden monkeys leaping from tree to tree.

At last, having seen all the highlights on this whirlwind adventure, their Ultimate East Africa Safari: Kenya, Tanzania, and Gorillas vacation came to an end. They headed back to the capital city of Kigali to catch their flight back home.

Day 13 – 15
It’s off to Tanzania today! Fly to Serengeti National Park, where you’ll be met at the airstrip and enjoy a game drive en route to Serian’s Serengeti Lamai. Located between the Central Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve to the north, the Northern Serengeti is a remote African wildlife wonderland. The vast, rolling savannah of the Northern Serengeti, is known as the hub of the great migration. The landscape is characterised by vast stretches of savannah interspersed with acacia trees and riverine woodlands. Wildlife can be seen along the banks of the Mara River and visitors can view the annual spectacle of the half a million migrating wildebeest. Commonly spotted wildlife include: a multitude of plains game such as buffalo, zebra, gazelles, impala, giraffe as well as lion and leopard. Visitors can look forward to bird watching, hot air ballooning, game safaris and guided bush walks. The camp is situated opposite Crossing Point 4, midway among all crossing points along the river – and is perfectly positioned to spectate the wildebeest river crossings. Away from the river, this area of rolling savannah, boulder-strewn hillsides and fig-tree groves, is littered with inconceivably enormous herds of wildebeest, topi and zebra – as well as all the predators that gorge on this movable feast. Needless to say, the game-viewing we have access to is world-class. Cheetah, lion and elephant especially make for fantastic sighting, but it’s not unheard of to see the Big Five in a day.
