Why the Seychelles is perfect for a special occasion trip

Hey everyone, it is Shannon here.  We’ve just returned from our honeymoon in the Seychelles, and honestly, it was everything we dreamed of. If you’re looking for a place that feels secluded, romantic, and effortlessly beautiful, this is it. The beaches look like they’re straight out of a postcard—soft white sand, huge granite boulders, clear turquoise water, and just the right mix of adventure and relaxation.

We started on Mahé, staying at the Hilton Northolme, where our villa perched above the ocean with views that didn’t seem real. We watched the sunset over the ocean every night.  Days were spent swimming, lounging on the beach, and slowing down after all the wedding excitement. The island has such a laid-back charm—perfect for those first few days of married life.

Then we took the ferry to Praslin (pro tip, upgrade to business class) and checked into Raffles, which might be one of the most romantic places on earth. Our villa had its own plunge pool overlooking the ocean, and one afternoon we had a couples spa treatment in an open-air spa room, surrounded by tropical greenery and the sound of the waves. We went diving and saw sharks and an octopus (equal parts thrilling and amazing!), and spent time visiting the island’s famous giant tortoises, which the hotel had on site. They were surprisingly gentle and curious.

Before heading home, we squeezed in a quick city tour of Victoria, wandered through the colorful market, sampled local rum, and stopped at a few beautiful lookouts that showed just how lush and vibrant the islands are.  And ended with an amazing local lunch.

And if you go, fly Qatar Airways in business class (if it works with your budget)—it really is the best airline in the world and made the long journey feel easy and comfortable.

Seychelles is the kind of place that feels untouched and intimate, with just the right mix of luxury and natural beauty. Whether you’re floating in your plunge pool, exploring coral reefs, or watching the sun dip into the ocean, it’s pure honeymoon magic.
